About Us
My passion is travel, education, outside spaces and places. As a child growing up, we lived in Asia, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, and the West indies and travelled to more than 20 countries before I turned 12. We finally settled in Florida in the early seventies. My fascination has always been the outdoors, learning about natural environments, and cultural relationships within the natural world. After pursuing my degree in biology, focusing on marine biology, Build-A-Field provided the opportunity to share my passion through environmental education.
Lessons and experiences come alive for students as they explore their natural habitats. This sense of empowerment through hands-on education creates enthusiasm and a desire for learning. Each of our field trips are filled with adventure, fun, and teamwork, making lasting memories and friendships through each experience.
— Gabriella Boll, Director
After graduation, I spent some time traveling and working in Central America, mainly Belize, where I was a field biologist for a marine reserve. Working with local communities I found my passion for teaching conservation and the importance of educating our youth in the field of science. Eventually, I made my way back to sunny south Florida where I started my environmental education career with Build-A-Field Trip and received my master’s degree in marine biology.
Environmental education is such a rewarding experience. My passion for nature flows and sparks inspiration to many students and teachers on our trips. There is no better place to learn about the environment and local ecosystems than visiting them in person.
— Alain Pierre-Louis, Senior Field Instructor
Instructors teach by stepping out of the classroom and into the environment, allowing students to immerse themselves in science and cultural studies. Through a hands-on approach our team makes the outdoor classroom come to life!
Our programs conform to specific educational standards and our team of extremely qualified instructors enables students to discover for themselves, to see, feel, and hear, the wonders of the natural world we inhabit. Instructors work with teachers toward a common goal to better educate our students in the natural world which ensures the learning continues well after the trip is over.
