Welcome to the “Sunshine State of Mind” where campers can learn more about themselves while discovering the real Florida. Join us as we travel throughout the state and visit the hidden gems that make Florida so unique. On this 8-day adventure, we will canoe scenic rivers, snorkel crystal clear springs, slog through cypress forests, hunt for prehistoric fossils, and explore our oceans.
Our journey will begin by exploring Florida’s many water resources. Travel north to Harbor Branch Oceanographic Center where we will examine the diversity of marine life that inhabit Indian River Lagoon. Continue on our way to central Florida, where we discover where our freshwater comes from. Set camp, grab a tube, and ride down the refreshing waters of Rock Springs Run. After a night under the stars, journey back in time, as we canoe the scenic Wekiwa River and peer into spring water so clear you can see turtles and fish swimming beneath your boat! Experience Florida’s ancient geology by venturing into a dry cavern and snorkeling the crystal clear, spring fed, Rainbow River. After a restful night’s sleep in our air-conditioned cabins, we will travel to the west coast of Florida to explore the secrets of our seas at Mote Marine Laboratory and hunt for prehistoric shark teeth on Venice Beach. Our fossil hunting adventure continues as we canoe the Peace River, fossil hunting in sandbars along the way. Journey back to the east coast of Florida, stopping at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. Here we will put our canoeing skills to the test on the scenic Loxahatchee River. You may see bald eagles, wild turkey, and deer along the river banks and even elusive otters frolicking in the water! The following day will be spent experiencing the north Everglades as you slog through a cypress forest and paddle through the sawgrass prairie. Our last stop will be at Loggerhead Marine Life Center for an exclusive look at sea turtles on their way to recovery and eventual release. Return home with lifelong memories, exciting stories, and wonderful friends!
